The hearing of the case filed by a person against TikTok for “publishing immoral content” was seen at Peshawar Supreme Court in Pakistan.
At the hearing, which also included Pakistan Telecommunications Agency (PTA) officials, Judge Kayser Rashid Khan pointed out that TikTok was spreading obscenity against the cultural values of the country and said that the videos uploaded on the application were unacceptable for the Pakistani community.
Han stated that TikTok mostly affected young people and reports about the practice in Peshawar are sad.
PROHIBITED UNTIL STEP FOR IMPROPER CONTENT
At the hearing, PTA Director Kamran Gandapur stated that they sent a request to TikTok officials to ban the content in question, but they have not received a “positive response” yet.
Judge Han, referring to the “assurance that TikTok will block accounts related to the dissemination of obscene and inappropriate content” given to the PTA on October 19, 2020, decided to close TikTok until a step was taken towards “inappropriate” content.
The 2nd Asian country to ban TikTok after India
Pakistan Telecommunications Agency banned TikTok on October 9, 2020, on the grounds that “immoral” content could not be controlled.
On October 19, 2020, the agency announced that the ban imposed on TikTok was lifted, following the company’s assurance that it would block accounts involved in the dissemination of sexually explicit and inappropriate content.
