The statement from the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses is as follows;
By making the necessary planning and arrangements regarding the vaccination of detainees and convicts in penal execution institutions; In line with the Ministry of Health’s National Kovid-19 Vaccine Program, the Kovid-19 vaccine has begun to be given to detainees and convicts.
Thanks to the sensitive implementation of the above-mentioned measures and the self-sacrificing efforts of our staff, contact from outside to inside / inside out has been minimized in 372 penal institutions, thus keeping the epidemic danger under control. Of course, it has not been possible to eliminate external contact due to obligations such as shipments, product supply, hospital and trial referrals.
As of now, 55 of our 372 Penal Institutions have positive cases.
According to the notifications made by the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor; As of today, the total number of Kovid-19 cases among detainees and convicts in penal institutions is 240. 33 of these prisoners and convicts, 2 of whom are in intensive care, are hospitalized and their treatment continues within the framework of the Ministry of Health treatment algorithm. All prisoners / convicts who test positive are in good general health. There are no prisoners / convicts who are intubated. The other 207 detainees and convicts whose treatments are continued in penal institutions do not have any symptoms in terms of Kovid-19; their general health is good.
The relatives of the detainees / convicts affected by the coronavirus epidemic are regularly informed by the Ministry of Health and the directorates of penal execution institutions.
Again, according to the information received from the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor; 19 prisoners / convicts who lost their lives since March 14, 2020, when the Kovid-19 epidemic was effective in our country, were treated in hospitals before or during the epidemic due to chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis, COPD, asthma, kidney failure, cerebral hemorrhage, chest diseases). 9 convicts died due to complications in their immune system due to the Kovid-19 virus.
Therefore, it is seen that 19 of the detainees and convicts who lost their lives during this period had a hospital history or had treatment processes for chronic diseases.
The measures taken for human health and the right to a healthy life in cooperation with the Ministry of Health Coronavirus Scientific Committee, CTE General Directorate, Provincial Pandemic Boards and Chief Public Prosecutor’s Offices are carried out effectively and meticulously in all our institutions.
